The Illinois Patriot Education Fund provides scholarships and educational opportunities for Illinois active duty and veteran military families.
We fund the active duty or veteran, their spouse and dependents because education is a part of the solution. We target our focus on those enlisted military families with ranks of E-5 and below. For many, higher education through college or certified vocational training — and then a career can be the mission. Our veterans need the highest level of support services including healthcare, education and career opportunities. This is too much for the government alone to take on. Illinois Patriot Education Fund is a part of the solution.
To inspire others to replicate this fundraising model on a state-by-state basis in order to influence local, state, and federal government to enhance the educational benefits, beyond those provided by the Post-9/11 GI Bill, to our service men and women; and the families of these men and women who have been wounded, disabled or killed while serving our country. We also support and partner with programs that provide financial literacy skills to our Illinois military families.
Why not the whole country? While there are many national charities that offer services to those of IPEF, we have found that we can make a greater impact by keeping the money local to Illinois and forming a strong grassroots effort. To date, nearly 320 service men and women have been killed who hail from the state of Illinois alone, with hundreds more wounded or disabled. Multiply those numbers by the dependents who are impacted by those statistics and it becomes almost overwhelming. If we start here and do a good job in Illinois, we can create a model that can be replicated on a state-by-state basis and make a difference that can significantly effect meaningful change.
